- Pencil
- Level
- Measuring tape
- Drill (optional, for easier screw installation)
NOTE: Ensure you have a clean, flat workspace large enough to lay out all parts.
Assembly Instructions
Follow steps in order. Assemble on a soft surface to avoid scratching parts.
- Identify Parts: Lay out all boards and hardware according to the parts list.
- Attach Side Panels: Position the two side panels vertically, parallel to each other.
- Insert Support Pegs: For each shelf position desired, insert 4 plastic support pegs into the pre-drilled holes on the inner sides of both side panels. Ensure they are fully seated.
- Place Bottom Shelf: Rest the lowest shelf board on the lowest set of support pegs. The shelf should sit flush against the side panels.
- Secure Shelves (Optional): For added stability, you can use the provided wood screws to secure the bottom shelf to the side panels from underneath.
- Add Remaining Shelves: Place the remaining shelf boards on the corresponding sets of support pegs.
- Check Stability: Gently rock the assembled unit to ensure all joints are tight and shelves are level.
WARNING! Do not stand or sit on the shelves. They are for storage only.
Mounting to Wall
To prevent tip-over accidents, this unit MUST be securely attached to the wall.
- Locate Studs: Use a stud finder to locate wall studs. Mounting into wood studs is strongest.
- Position Unit: Place the assembled shelf unit in its desired location against the wall.
- Attach Brackets: Use the provided screws to attach the metal wall brackets to the top rear of the side panels.
- Mark Wall: Hold the unit level against the wall. Mark the screw holes for the brackets on the wall.
- Install Wall Anchors/Screws: If drilling into drywall without a stud, insert the provided wall anchors. Drill pilot holes, then secure the brackets to the wall with the long screws.
- Secure Unit: Lift the unit and hook the brackets onto the wall screws. Tighten any safety screws provided.
- Final Check: Pull forward on the top of the unit to ensure it is firmly anchored and cannot tip.
CAUTION! Failure to secure the unit to the wall can result in serious injury or death, especially from children climbing on it.
Adjusting Shelves
The HEJNE system allows for flexible shelf height adjustment.
- Remove Items: Empty the shelf you wish to move.
- Lift Shelf: Gently lift the shelf board up and off the support pegs.
- Reposition Pegs: Remove the plastic support pegs from their current holes and insert them into the new desired holes on the side panels. Ensure all four pegs (two per side) are at the same height.
- Replace Shelf: Carefully lower the shelf board onto the new set of pegs.
- Check Level: Use a level to ensure the shelf is even.
Tip: Plan your shelf spacing based on the height of items you intend to store.

Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
| Unit wobbles or is unstable | Uneven floor; loose connections; not wall-mounted | Check that all screws are tight. Ensure unit is attached to wall. Place on a level surface or use shims under feet. |
| Shelf will not sit level | Support pegs not fully inserted or at mismatched heights | Remove shelf. Ensure all four support pegs are pushed completely into their holes and are placed in corresponding holes on both side panels. |
| Difficulty inserting screws | Misaligned holes; lack of pilot hole | Ensure parts are aligned correctly. For hard wood, create a small pilot hole with a drill or awl before driving the screw. |
| Wall anchors spin or pull out | Anchor too small for hole; incorrect installation | Use the correct size anchor for your wall type (drywall, plaster, etc.). Ensure anchor is fully inserted before tightening screw. Consider mounting into a wall stud for maximum strength. |
| Wood has small cracks or knots | Natural characteristics of solid pine | This is normal for unfinished natural wood and does not affect strength. Can be filled with wood filler if finishing. |
