Tools Required

You will need the following tools for assembly and installation:

NOTE: Using the correct tools ensures proper assembly and safety.

Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before beginning assembly and installation.

  1. Work with a partner: Some parts are large; two people make assembly safer and easier.
  2. Check wall type: Ensure your wall can support the shelf system. Use appropriate anchors for your wall material (drywall, plaster, concrete).
  3. Locate studs: For maximum strength, mount uprights into wall studs where possible.
  4. Secure properly: Tighten all screws and anchors completely.
  5. Weight limit: Do not exceed the maximum load per shelf (see Specifications).

WARNING! Improper installation can cause the shelf to fall, resulting in injury or damage. Always follow weight limits and mounting instructions.

Assembly Steps

Assemble the shelf units before mounting them to the wall.

  1. Attach brackets to shelves: Place a shelf board upside down on a soft surface. Position two brackets on the underside, aligning the holes. Insert and tighten the provided screws through the bracket holes into the shelf. Repeat for the second shelf.
  2. Check alignment: Ensure brackets are parallel and securely attached.
  3. Prepare uprights: Identify the top and bottom of each wall upright (marked if applicable).

Tip: Do not fully tighten screws until all brackets are positioned, then tighten completely.

Wall Mounting

This is the most critical step. Take your time to ensure uprights are level and securely fastened.

  1. Plan layout: Decide on the height and spacing of your shelves. Use a pencil to lightly mark the desired top position of the uprights on the wall.
  2. Locate studs: Use a stud finder to locate wall studs. Mark their edges.
  3. Position first upright: Hold the upright against the wall, aligning your top mark. Use a level to ensure it is perfectly vertical. Mark the screw holes.
  4. Drill pilot holes: Drill holes at your marks. For drywall without studs, use the provided wall anchors (insert with a hammer).
  5. Mount upright: Align the upright with the holes. Insert screws through the upright into the wall anchors or studs. Tighten securely but do not overtighten.
  6. Mount second upright: Measure the exact distance from the first upright to position the second one. Use the shelf itself or a tape measure. Repeat steps 3-5, constantly checking with a level to ensure both uprights are vertical and aligned with each other.

CAUTION! An unlevel installation will cause shelves to sit unevenly and may compromise stability.

Shelf Configuration

The BOAXEL system is flexible. Once uprights are mounted, you can place and adjust shelves easily.

  1. Hang shelves: Hook the assembled shelf brackets onto the desired slots on the wall uprights. The bracket hooks should click into place.
  2. Adjust height: To change a shelf's height, lift it slightly to disengage the bracket hooks, then lower the brackets and reposition them on a different set of slots.
  3. Ensure level: After positioning, place a level on the shelf to check it is horizontal. Adjust by slightly lifting one side and repositioning the bracket hook.
  4. Locking (if applicable): Some models include locking clips or screws to secure brackets to uprights. If included, install them now to prevent accidental lifting.

Note: You can purchase additional brackets and shelves to expand your system.

Weight Limits & Specifications

WARNING! Exceeding weight limits can cause brackets to bend, shelves to sag, or the entire unit to detach from the wall.

Care & Maintenance

To keep your shelves looking new and functioning properly:

  1. Cleaning: Wipe shelves with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals.
  2. Drying: Immediately dry the surface with a clean cloth to prevent moisture damage (especially important for particleboard shelves).
  3. Inspection: Periodically check that all screws and wall anchors are tight. Check brackets for signs of bending or stress.
  4. Load: Always distribute weight evenly across the shelf. Avoid placing all heavy items at the front edge.

CAUTION! Do not use the shelves as a step ladder or work surface. They are for storage only.
